Sign Language Printables from Signing Time

Did you know you can teach your child to communicate with you using sign language well before they have the ability to talk? I had heard about using sign language with babies and small children but recently I met the team from Signing Time and had the opportunity to review their DVDs and flash cards and I was amazed at how engaging, effective and really easy their program is! They also have a curriculum for teaching American Sign Language as a second language for children in classroom or homeschool settings – including signs for use everyday. How cool is that?

Anyhow, in addition to all the other excellent sign language resources and activities they have at their site, Signing Time has five theme based coloring books you can print out for free to reinforce the concepts, words and signs you are teaching your children. Here is a sample of one of the pages – featuring their star teacher Rachel signing the letter L:

My kids and I really enjoy these videos. We first started using them when my kids were toddlers. We found them at the library, and started expanding our sign language vocabulary immediately. Very simple, easy, logical way to learn ASL. We still sing the theme song, “It’s signing time with Alex and Leah…” Very fun.
