How To Train Your Dragon Video Game Giveaway

How to Train Your Dragon has definitely been one of the biggest box office hits so far this year and the video games from Activision based on the movie are flying off the shelf. The video games allow players to experience the game as “Hiccup” or “Astrid” on the Island of Berk which features places from the movie like the Viking Village, Wild Zone, Training Zone and Flight Arena. The graphics in the game are spectacular and players train their dragons, play mini-games, explore area of the island and battle in tournaments. The game is rated E10+ for fantasy violence, but my 8 year old was so into the dragon training aspect of the game she really didn’t seem phased by the battle aspect. My 13 year old also thought the game was easy enough for the younger kids to enjoy but challenging enough to keep his interest.

Read, Play and Give with WeGiveBooks.org

The Pearson Foundation and Penguin Books have launched, WeGiveBooks.org, a great new web site for kids and parents that lets kids read books online, get reading tips, and print out activity packets THEN after reading online, a book is donated to the charity of your choice (there are at least 10 to choose from). Total win-win situation!

How it works. Once you have created a login, you get to pick from a host of charities to have the books donated to after you read with your child online. They have books for children up to 10 years old and may add young adult books, too. The books are beautiful! Some of the books, like Ladybug Girl, have printable activity packets that you can download and use as supplemental activities for you child or class.

Not only do the children have a free way to learn about charity and the act of giving, it also gives them a larger selection of books to read without having to go to the bookstore or library. Sign up for We Give Books and read with your kids today!

Disclosure – I was an invited guest and I wrote this review as part of a campaign by Mom Central on behalf of We Give Books and received breakfast, tickets to the Rock Bottom Remainders concert, and a gift certificate.

As my kids have grown we have enjoyed countless episodes and stories from Caillou. My personal favorite episode has to be the one where Caillou accidently paints all over Rosie’s doll though.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel Printables

My kids and I loved Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, even though I think they were a little overshadowed by those adorable Chipettes! The movie was just released on DVD and my kids have already been watching it over and over and over.

If you visit the Nick Jr Family Flicks site there are quite a few Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel coloring pages, printable games, cool printable family movie night tickets and more! The coloring page link actually contains 6 separate coloring pages in one file.

So what is Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel about? When the Chipmunk’s caretaker Dave is injured on location in Paris the Chipmunks go to visit their Aunt Jackie. Unfortunately her wheelchair rolls down a flight of stairs leaving her unemployed, irresponsible, video game playing grandson in charge. Can you say disaster? The chipmunks start school and like most high school experiences it is filled with drama. The school’s music department is in danger of being shut down and it is up to the Chipmunks to save the day. The Chipettes are three girl chipmunks who are looking for their own stardom and find their way to the Chipmunks ex-manager Ian. Of course, Ian has $$$ in his eyes and does his best to use the Chipettes as his return to stardom. The two groups end up singing against each other but ultimately helping each other out, saving the music department and becoming good friends in the process.

Anyhow, the movie is too cute, very predictable and perfect for family movie nights!
