Johnny Appleseed Color-by-Number

John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, was born on September 26, 1774. He dedicated his life to the planting of apple trees – mostly in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Ohio. He loved the outdoors, wore a tin pot for a hat, and was friendly to everyone he met! The only time he was ever sick was in 1845 – when he died. Maybe an apple a day really does keep the doctor away!

We have created a color-by-number activity in honor of Johnny Appleseed for you to use in your classroom lessons or just for fun!

Printable Back-to-School Backpack Activity for Pre-K and Kindergarten

Here is an activity that is perfect for that first week of school or for getting ready to go back to school!  Our printable backpack activity helps younger kids – preschool, pre-K and Kindergarten practice important information such as writing their Name, Address and Phone Number.

For the activity, print out the page and have kids fill out:

  • “Name” goes on the top pocket
  • “Address or city and state” goes on the map pocket
  • “Phone Number” goes on the phone face/screen.

Kids can then decorate the backpack and draw items in the top pocket (pencils, keys, snacks). The back of the page can be used to list items that need to be packed on the first day of school. For an extra activity, make a photo ID and attach it to the backpack handle with ribbon or string.

Printable Reading Log for Kids

Reading is such an important part of our kids’ education and one way to encourage a love of reading is through creative reading logs. I love this concept of the reading tree that my super talented illustrator, Heather created. She is a super Mom who homeschools all of her children and always has fun ways to help her children learn.

How to use: Print out both sheets by clicking on the images below. Have children color the pups under the tree and the basic tree parts. The page with the blank mini books are to be cut out and attached to the tree. Have children read a book, then  write the book title on a mini book and add an illustration. Attach the mini book to the book tree that the pups are reading under.  When all 10 spaces are filled, set up a reward that the children can claim.

Feel free to use these printable reading logs in the classroom or at home and help grow happy readers!

Wheels on the Bus Printable Activity

One of the most popular songs with the preschool age group when it comes time to go back to school is the “Wheels on the Bus.” Use our printable Wheels on the Bus activity in conjunction with getting the kids ready to go back to school or first days of school activities.

Color the bus and its parts, then help little ones cut out the wheels, wipers and more to attach to their bus picture. We recommend using brads or something similar so that the wheels will still roll and the wipers will still swish.
